Healthy You

The Healthy You concept was developed after a series of focus groups revealed that Aroostook County residents were highly interested in information that extended beyond traditional health and wellness. The respondents spoke of wanting access to resources that would improve or enhance their lives, but were not typically available in their community or through their primary care providers – they identified topics such as financial management, health insurance, caregiver support, stress reduction, disease prevention, holistic medicine, parenting, and personal enrichment. Healthy You is designed to address this multiplicity of needs through comprehensive, community-based programs.

Each of the six Healthy You communities will be served for two full months per year. In each town, a wide variety of activities will be offered throughout the month. These will include: health screenings, lectures series, workshops, support groups, socialization opportunities, school programs, health certification education (CPR, First Aid, etc.), contests, exercise programs, and recreation activities. All Aroostook County residents are invited to participate in Healthy You regardless of which town it is being offered and nearly all programs are provided free of charge.

The Healthy You Communities of central Aroostook County, Maine include: Washburn, Caribou, Fort Fairfield, Limestone, Van Buren, Presque Isle.
